Since the original Wichita Walk to Defeat ALS at the Waterfront can not go on as usual this year, ALSA has asked the teams to come up with some creative alternatives. Vicki Flores and Wendy Mayes will be walking for the Flores Family and Friends Team and visiting neighboring businesses to their studio along with East Douglas Avenue. The businesses are making generous donations and we will video them as we make our stroll and peak inside each one to show our viewers what is happening inside.
Please join our team and support us with your donations. We have been working together to raise awareness and funds to fight the Beast... ALS since my son Bryan Flores was diagnosed nearly 15 years ago.
AN ALS DIAGNOSIS IS A DEATH SENTENCE! THE LENGTH OF THAT SENTENCE DEPENDS ON WHICH PART OF THE BODY IT TAKES FIRST.
An ALS Patient can not go through a horrendous treatment and come out a survivor. There is no treatment. There are no survivors. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS! The victims are randomly selected , usually somewhere between the ages of 30-60. Every 90 minutes...someone loses the hard fought battle and dies from ALS. The kids ( ages 8The kids ( ages 8 & 12) of one of my ALS pals wrote this for their DAD . ALS RAP He has ALS and his name is Steve He cannot walk; he can barely breathe! He cannot use his hands at all He cannot stand, But he CAN fall! Our dad needs help to put on clothes Our dad needs help to wipe his nose We serve our dad; We serve our dad;he's like a king Our dad needs help with EVERYTHING He cannot talk or even rap His body always feels like BEEP Can't use his phone Here's a surprise Our dad does typing with his eyes! He can no longer tell a joke He likes to eat, but he might choke PBA makes him laugh and cry But Dad is still Our favorite guy!
When people ask how Bryan is doing, we say he is doing well. He is still alive, he can still breath unassisted, and can still eat by mouth with our help ( he has no use of his arms and hands) He has one of the slowest progressing forms of this evil disease, the Drs have seen. But he is still dying. We watch him lose abilities slowly. But we are all very aware of his future.
As a Mom and a woman who has watched so many people in our area die a horrible long death from this disease, I ask you to donate any Researchers say that a treatment is on the horizon. They are making great advances. I feel it is my duty to advocate for all of them for as long as I can. I would be honored if you would join our fight.
