The 2020 Walk to Defeat ALS will be #WalkYourWay!
That’s right! To prioritize the safety of all involved, this year we are giving everyone the tools to host their own Walk to Defeat ALS from home to fit their teams’ needs, health directives, and abilities. It is our goal to have 100s of events hosted throughout our service area. We are asking you to organize your own Walk on one of four dates this summer and fall. Engage your family, friends, and neighbors. The event has now “come” to your community. Take a walk or ride around your neighborhood, spread the word about ALS, host a post-walk gathering, take lots of photos and make new memories.
If you can't walk on these days - choose your own! It's your walk, your way.
Wondering how to #WalkYourWay?
Follow these easy steps to success:
Step ONE: Register your team
Visit WalktoDefeatALS.org and find your city. Register your team, and you have taken the first step!
Step TWO: Round up your "gang"
Invite your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. The more the merrier. You can also set up "sub-walks" in other places with other people. Keep it safe.
Step THREE: Spread the word
Post on Facebook neighborhood pages, the Nextdoor App, and social media. Send emails and make calls. Break out your old team t-shirts or official walk day shirts from years past. Make sure everyone knows what you are doing - and why.
Step FOUR: Fundraise
ALS hasn't stopped and neither can we. Although the event looks different, the need is the same. Set up a Facebook fundraiser through yoru participant center, send emails or try a lemonaid stand. Every little bit helps.
Step FIVE: Personalize your walk
Plan and create your walk decor. Create your own posters, tshirts, or decorate your yard. Our Chapter will provide your team captain with a "Walk in a Box" to help you get going.
Step SIX: Share your story
Use Facebook Live to "broadcast" your walk day. Take photos and share on social media - tag them with #WalkYourWay. Share your photos to our Facebook page so we can feature your walk! We can't wait to see all of the creative ways you use to share your story.
